Information for International Foundation Students
2013 – 14 is a very exciting year for the CSM Foundation Course. The Course is moving from its old home at Back Hill to new, purpose built spaces at the CSM Kings Cross and Archway sites.
The move will bring many benefits to our Foundation students including:
• Working alongside undergraduate staff and students
• Integration into the wider College community
• Access to cross level talks, lecturers and exhibitions
• Working in the newly designed and equipped workshops along side BA students
• Access to specialist technical expertise
• Closer proximity to the Library and Learning Zone
• Closer proximity to Student Services, Study Support and the Student Union
The new Foundation Course programme is designed to ensure that all students benefit from both the Kings Cross and Archway sites. The five Curriculum Areas (Graphic & Communication Design; Three Dimensional Design & Architecture; Fine Art; Fashion, Textiles & Styling; Performance Design & Practice) will have dedicated studio spaces at both sites. This will allow students access to the different resources and facilities at both sites.
The Archway site is being completely redesigned and refurbished in anticipation of the Foundation Course move and many new resources, including workshops, are being built and equipped.
New Foundation studios at Kings Cross are being configured on the ground and first floor.
This is not just a physical move between buildings as the Academic staff have taken this opportunity to rethink and revitalize the curriculum as we look forward to the next academic year and all of the potential our new locations will bring.
The timetable is designed so that all students will work at both sites, the timing of which will depend on their projects and workshop needs. The projects vary in length from one to two weeks in Part One of the Course. Students will be provided with essential information about both sites including local places to eat, shop, public transport, post offices, banks, hospitals, police stations etc.
